Fighting Talk

The Foundling Museum, October 2021 - February 2022

Through the extraordinary autobiography of foundling George King, who fought at the Battle of Trafalgar, Fighting Talk examined the origins and context of the Foundling Hospital. It shared new research looking at the realities of foundling apprenticeships and the impact that their labour had on Britain’s transformation into a global super-power, Georgian society and the lives of its working-class citizens.

Curated with Helen Berry, Professor of History at University of Exeter, and author of Orphans of Empire: The Fate of London’s Foundlings (OUP, 2019).
